Last month a bike that was very firmly locked to a fence along the street at 925 Southard was stolen during the night.
Last week another bike, also locked to a fence, at 919 Southard was stolen overnight!
Has anyone else in the neighborhood been experiencing this problem?

in the past year we've had 3 bikes stolen from our yard, two of which were securely locked. We also had a break-in recently through the kitchen window. All these years of keeping wide open windows may not work anymore!
ReplyDeleteI'm worried about this; I've a collection of vintage bikes and am attached to several of them.
ReplyDeleteWhen I sit on my front porch sippin' coffee in the AM, I sometimes see scruffy guys pedaling one bike whilst carrying another. Curious, I followed one the other day...
the man took his booty to the housing project at the foot of Eaton and White. A thin guy with a beard came out, looked over the bike (a rusty Huffy), and handed over some $$.
A few days later, the Huffy re-appeared with a rattle-can paint job in front of Blossom's with a $40 price tag on it.
I spoke to the police, and there's little they can do, UNLESS the bike is registered with them. I'm gonna run all my bikes down to get registered - if these bike 'chop shops' get caught red-handed, it may slow them down. Otherwise, as things get tougher on the island, thieves will become more brazen.
